7th 6GEM General Assembly in Wachtberg

Another inspiring general assembly of the BMBF-funded 6G research hub, 6GEM, recently concluded at the Fraunhofer FHR in Wachtberg. The event proved an outstanding opportunity for collaboration, innovation, and knowledge exchange.
The assembly brought together over 100 participants; attendees had the chance to explore 50+ posters and 10+ experimental demonstrations, each showcasing innovative ideas and solutions poised to shape the future of wireless communication. We covered diverse and impactful topics, ranging from extended reality (XR) and robotics to beamforming, reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS), photonics, advanced network slicing for ultra-low-latency applications, and advanced localization and sensing techniques. This rich variety of research reflects the multidisciplinary nature of 6G, blending expertise from communication systems, hardware design, and application-driven innovation.
A particular highlight of the event was the strong presence of industrial and international partners, especially from Germany and Japan (NICT and various universities). Their involvement enriched the discussions, providing valuable perspectives from both academic and practical viewpoints. This collaboration exemplifies the importance of bridging academia and industry to address real-world challenges and accelerate the adoption of next-generation technologies. The feedback from these partners not only affirmed the relevance of the showcased research but also offered constructive insights for advancing these projects. The synergy between researchers and stakeholders from various fields created a dynamic environment for brainstorming and refining ideas.
We are looking forward to the next General Assembly in 2025 in Dortmund.
