6GEM+ and GEM-X Hold Successful 1st General Assembly in Aachen
The 1st General Assembly Meeting of the 6GEM+ and GEM-X projects was successfully held on March 25–26, 2026, in Aachen, Germany. As the inaugural joint meeting of both projects, this event marked an important milestone and the official launch of a new phase of collaboration toward the development of intelligent 6G networks.
The two-day meeting brought together project partners from academia and research institutions to establish a shared vision, align strategic objectives, and initiate coordinated activities across research and technology transfer domains.
The first day of the General Assembly focused on project orientation and strategic alignment. Following a welcome and project introduction by the coordinator, participating teams presented their expertise and contributions. Keynote presentations provided insights into international 6G programmes, placing the projects within a broader global context. In addition, the work packages and use cases were introduced and discussed in detail, laying the groundwork for future collaboration. The programme also included an on-site visit to the testbed facilities at Fraunhofer IPT and the Institute for Automotive Engineering (ika), offering participants a practical perspective on experimental infrastructures. The day concluded with a networking event that facilitated exchange among partners in an informal setting.
The second day emphasized interactive exchange and operational planning. An industry keynote set the stage for discussions on practical implementation and collaboration with external stakeholders. Poster sessions provided an opportunity to present ongoing work and foster dialogue among participants. Parallel working sessions enabled in-depth discussions on the initial steps within the defined work packages and use cases. Furthermore, dedicated sessions on technology transfer addressed pathways for translating research results into real-world applications. The meeting concluded with a summary of key outcomes and an outlook on the next steps of the projects.
The General Assembly brought together leading partner institutions, including RWTH Aachen University as project coordinator, TU Dortmund University, Ruhr University Bochum, Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML, and Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology IPT. The strong interdisciplinary collaboration among these institutions forms a solid foundation for achieving the ambitious goals of the 6GEM+ and GEM-X initiatives.
As the first in a series of biannual General Assembly meetings, this event established an effective framework for continuous coordination and exchange within the consortium. The 6GEM+ and GEM-X projects will continue to build on this momentum in the coming years, fostering innovation and advancing research toward next-generation communication systems.
The consortium would like to thank all participants for their valuable contributions and looks forward to the continued collaboration in future meetings.
