The 3rd B5G/6G German-Japan Workshop in Tokyo, Japan

In collaboration with Dr. K. Ishizu from NICT, Prof. Gacanin co-organized the 3rd B5G/6G German-Japan Workshop in Tokyo, Japan, supported by 6G Platform and NICT. This event brought together approximately one hundred researchers from both Germany and Japan, featuring poster and demo sessions, presentations on Japanese B5G projects, and two dynamic panel discussions. The workshop's diverse audience, consisting of academics and industry participants from both countries, illuminated the potential for new collaborations. In a poster session, Prof. Gacanin highlighted the ongoing research endeavors of the DSP chair, particularly focusing on the BMBF 6GEM and 6G-ANNA projects, along with collaborative efforts with Prof. K. Sakaguchi from the Tokyo Institute of Technology. On the second day, Prof. Gacanin facilitated a discussion during the panel, delving into topics concerning new applications, 6G technology enablers, and notably, practical implementations. The panel was a mix of academics and industry practitioners. The critical focus on energy efficiency emerged as a significant objective, yet one that has been largely overlooked. Prof. U. Rüdiger, the Rector of RWTH Aachen University, graced the workshop with a visit on the second day and actively participated in the networking event. The presence of Prof. H. Tokuda, President of NICT, along with presentations from the German project management agency VDI/VDE and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), added to the workshop's significance. Anticipation is high for the forthcoming steps in collaboration with our esteemed Japanese colleagues!
